At the end of the week, it's a good thing to have a team meeting. It gives a rythm to the project and allows for the satisfaction of sharing with others.
But having a improductive team meeting is a good way to have the attendees lose interest or wait for it to end while looking elsewere.
To have a productive session, I would advise the following structure (usually outlined in an agenda sent out in advance as a meeting without agenda is quite unsettling or prone to avoidance) :
-
Review of activities done
-
Review of blocking factors and resolutions
-
Review of future forseen work
-
Action list review
-
Did well this week
-
Do differently future weeks
-
Add items to action list if needed
-
Any other business
-
Break
-
Special topic explanation (any subject that a team member has prepared based on his/her experience during the week).
-
Closure
-
Let's go to the bar (as most team meetings are held on friday afternoon - it helps in keeping them short).
Of course, monitoring the team progress during the week is a good thing to do as the first points are "reviews", these items having already been dealt with. The objective is to thank who has done useful contributions and attack remaining issues as a group.
